**[Right folio]** Akamatsu Kazusa-no-suke (Yoshinori) deployed his force of over seven hundred horsemen, taking up positions at Reizei Nishi-Ōmiya and Suzume-no-mori. This was to stand against what was reported to be the advance of (Yamana) Kazusa-no-suke Kobayashi Kōzuke-no-kami from the direction of the Tanba road. Hatakeyama Uemon-no-suke (Motokuni) deployed his personal force of over eight hundred horsemen, positioning himself with the great zelkova tree in the northern garden of the Jingikan (Office of Divinities) to the south, and taking up a position at the western end of Tsuchmikado. This was so that, should the enemy advance from the eastern gate and charge westward along Ichijō, the force could ride swiftly to the vicinity of Inokuma and Modori-bashi to block them. Ōuchi-no-suke Yoshihiro deployed his personal force of over five hundred horsemen, placing the Jingikan grove behind him and taking up positions at Nijō-Ōmiya. This was to confront the Ōshū (Mutsu province) forces reported to be advancing up the Ōmiya road. Isshiki Gyōbu-no-tayū deployed over three hundred horsemen and took up a position at Kasuga Inokuma. This was a stratagem whereby, should any enemy advance up Inokuma, his force would ride swiftly toward the Nijō area to halt them. Kadenokōji Jibu-no-tayū Yoshishige【annotated in red above as "Shiba Yoshishige"】deployed over five hundred horsemen and took up a position at Nakamikado Abura-no-kōji. This was so that, should the enemy break in from the eastern gate and draw near to the Gosho's fortified enclosure, **[Left folio]** the force would ride swiftly toward the Nishi-no-tōin area, hold them in check, and decide the outcome in battle. Sasaki Jibu-no-shōyū Takanobu deployed over seven hundred horsemen, taking Ichijō Ōji as his front and the grove of Kitano behind him, and made camp at Daijō-e Hata (the field used for the Daijō-e ceremony). This was because it was reported that (Yamana) Harima-no-kami would push through from Tanba and attack via the Nagasaka-guchi; accordingly, the stratagem was to hold firm at Senbonnōmichi and Funaoka-yama, blocking the enemy's passage southward. The remaining commanders all served as the Gosho's mounted escort, taking up positions as far as the Ichijō area, with Nakamikado, Inokuma, and Ōmiya as their front. Their combined force amounted to over three thousand horsemen, held in readiness to reinforce any weak point should it appear among the various attack routes. The reason for spreading the encampments out in all four directions while deliberately leaving the center of Uchino wide open was this: should the enemy break through one line and attempt to cut through to the rear, they could be driven into the middle, surrounded, and cut down to the last man — such was the stratagem. 〇 Now, at dawn on the last day of the twelfth month, the Tanba forces that had crossed the ford at Kami-Katsura... </translation_ja>
