現代語訳
朝比奈は八人の異国人を連れてきて金儲けをしようと思ったが、思いのほか長旅の入用やその他手長島の騒ぎ、日々の雑用などで大いに損失を被ったので、小人島は小さな心からもこのことを気の毒に思い、鎌倉の雪ノ下に床店を設えて、米粒に三十三間堂の多千、粟粒に六字の名号、青豆に唐詩の五言絶句、一寸四方の紙に百人一首などの細字を書いて売ったところ、珍しいというので鎌倉中の評判となり、大いに銭を儲けて少しは朝比奈の損を埋めた。優しいことである。

Asahina had brought eight foreigners intending to make money from them, but unexpectedly, the expenses of the long journey, Tenaga-shima's troublemaking, and daily miscellaneous costs resulted in great losses. Seeing this as pitiful even from his small heart, Kojin-shima set up a street stall in Yukinoshita, Kamakura, where he sold fine calligraphy - writing the many thousands of Sanjusangendo temple on rice grains, the six-character sacred formula on millet grains, five-character Chinese poems on green beans, and compositions like the Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets on one-inch square papers. This became the talk of all Kamakura as something rare and wonderful, earning considerable money and somewhat offsetting Asahina's losses. How kind of him.
