　　　　　此俗ニ曰蛇結

和漢三才圖會灌木類曰　　　山空木《割書：是俗云｜夘花也｜》
　　　楊櫨（ウツキ）　空　　和名宇豆木

和名類聚抄に言う
　　皂莢（カワラフチ）　本草に云う皂莢（造夾の二音）
　　　　　和名はカワラフチ
　　　　　これを俗に蛇結と言う

和漢三才図会灌木類に言う　　　山空木（これは俗に言う卯花である）
　　　楊櫨（ウツギ）　空　　和名はウヅキ
　　　　　　　　は通也、中が空で能く通するため
　　　　　　　　故に名付けて卯の花と言うのは、ウ
　　　　　　　　ヅキ花の略であり、十二支の寅卯の卯ではない

空木　大和本草

　　　　　　　実を君仙子と謂う　（和漢草木和集出）

　　　溲　　本草に言う溲　一名は楊櫨（溲音は「流」の友音、和名はウヅキ）

The Wamyō Ruijushō states:

The Wakan Sansai Zue, section on shrubs, states:　　　Mountain Deutzia (this is what is commonly called u-no-hana)
　　　Yōro (Utsugi)　"Hollow"　　Japanese name is Uzuki
　　　　　　　　means "through" - because the center is hollow and things pass through well
　　　　　　　　Therefore it is named u-no-hana, which is an abbreviation of U-
　　　　　　　　zuki flower, not the "u" of the zodiacal signs tiger-rabbit
