公方様先頃少々 御咳気之処早速御快然先月十七日
紅葉山 御宮江 御参詣被為 在候ニ付為御怡御書被指出候処
右御返書今日被相渡之
一 同月廿五日歳暮御祝儀被献候ニ付 御内書御頂戴且又
御家来拝領物被 仰付候御礼御書被指出候処右御返書
今日於御老中宅被相渡之
但右御礼御書初而 御在国之節可記事ニ候得共

一 三月十八日於本多内蔵助《割書：昌｜長》宅左之通諸向江申渡之
先年 御直被 仰聞通御家之儀自余とは替候
条万事用簡略心懸可有之与被 思召処
近年諸侍不入好結構驕有之故歟大身小身
共ニ手前不如意之由被聞召及沙汰之限千万ニ候間
向後面々奉得此旨相守先規条目之趣其外ニも
不致費所を嗜ニ可仕者也

一 二月九日
公方様が先頃少々咳の症状があったが、早速御快復され、先月十七日に
紅葉山御宮へ御参詣なさったことについて、御祝いとして御書を差し出したところ、
右の御返書を今日渡された。
一 同月二十五日 歳暮の御祝儀を献上したことについて、御内書を頂戴し、また
御家来への拝領物を仰せ付けられた御礼として御書を差し出したところ、右の御返書を
今日御老中宅にて渡された。
ただし右の御礼御書は、初めて御在国の際に記載すべき事柄であるが

一 三月十八日 本多内蔵助昌長宅にて、左の通り諸方面へ申し渡した。
先年直接仰せ聞かされた通り、御家の儀は他とは異なる
条件により、万事簡略を心がけるべきであると思し召しのところ、
近年諸侍が不適切な好みで結構に驕りがあるためか、大身小身
ともに手前が不如意である由を聞き及び、沙汰の限りで千万に候間、
今後面々この旨を得て相守り、先規条目の趣旨、その他にも
費用のかかる所を慎むように仕るべきである。

made a pilgrimage to the Momijiyama Shrine. A congratulatory letter was submitted for this joyous occasion,
and the reply letter was delivered today.
1. Same month, 25th day Regarding the presentation of year-end congratulatory gifts, a private letter was received, and also
a letter of gratitude was submitted for the bestowal of gifts upon retainers, and the reply letter
was delivered today at the residence of the senior councilors.
However, this congratulatory letter should have been recorded when first residing in the domain, but

since the details are unclear in the official records, it is recorded here for the first time. Hereafter, as it becomes routine,
it will not be recorded.
1. 3rd month, 18th day At the residence of Honda Nainosuke Masanaga, the following was communicated to various parties:
As directly instructed in previous years, the affairs of your house differ from others
in their conditions, and it was thought that simplicity should be maintained in all matters.
However, in recent years, various retainers have shown inappropriate preferences and arrogant extravagance, and consequently both high and low-ranking samurai
are said to be experiencing financial difficulties, which is extremely deplorable.
Henceforth, everyone should understand and observe this directive, following the precedents and regulations, and in other matters as well
should refrain from expensive expenditures.
