無格足軽共の履物は、すべて挽下駄や藁草履を使用すべきところ、いつの間にか駒下駄に堅緒などを使用する者もいる。今後は挽下駄に八つ緒などを使用すること。
一、傘についても蛇の目傘などを差す者もいるが、今後は気を付けるように。また高鬢の者もいるが、気を付けて相応にするように。これもまた申し渡すように。これらの趣旨を支配頭中へ申し通すように思う。以上

Oral Instructions
Regarding footwear for unranked ashigaru (foot soldiers): they should use hiki-geta (plain wooden clogs) and straw sandals in all cases, but some have begun using koma-geta with kata-o (hard thongs) at some point. From now on, they shall use hiki-geta with yatsu-o (eight-strand thongs) and the like.
First, regarding umbrellas, some carry janome (bull's-eye pattern) umbrellas, so they should be careful about this from now on. Also, some wear their hair in high chignons, so they should be careful to keep it appropriate. This should also be communicated. Please ensure these instructions are conveyed to the supervising heads. The above.
