現代語訳
お袖の母親が諸々より婚礼の話を持ってきたので、娘の了見（意見）を尋ねる。
「どうしようか」
「気遣う」
「私もつらつら（よくよく）お世話になり、いかようとも（どのようでも）お心任せと言いながら、今に神田（与吉）が後妻を迎えぬと言う
ことさえすれば、ここへ切りただ住い、一生一人でおりましょう。
そう言う気であれば、また了見もある。」
英語訳
Osode's mother has received various marriage proposals, so she asks her daughter for her opinion.
"What shall we do?"
"I'm worried."
"I too have received much care from you, and while I say I'll go along with whatever you decide, as long as Kanda (Yokichi) promises not to take another wife,
I will simply live here and remain single for the rest of my life.
