現代語訳
ある裕福な人の息子や娘など何人もいるが、中でもお袖の風俗（美貌・品格）に見染めて、仲人を通して色々と結婚を申し込んできたが、与吉に義理立てして嫌がらぬ様子。力及ばず心を痛めていたところ、大勢の仲人たち
も「また良い案もあるだろう、わざわざ向こう（遠方）まで見に行こう」と屋根船に乗る。
「あの男は確かに与吉でございます」
与吉は久しく付き合いもやめて、ただ一人で秋葉の辺りへ出かける。
