草木性譜自序
鄭子産曰人心之不同如其面焉是故に
人の平生嗜む所も亦同しからす琴詩
酒点茶囲碁各其性の嗜む所に随て
人情を楽ましむ予性の嗜む所もとより
草木にあり夫草木は無情なりといへとも
更る〳〵栄衰して四時尽ることなし

草木性譜自序
鄭の子産が言った通り、「人の心の違いはその顔立ちのようなものである」。それゆえに人が平生好むところも同じではない。琴、詩、酒、点茶、囲碁など、それぞれその性質の好むところに従って人情を楽しませる。私の性質が好むところは元来草木にある。そもそも草木は感情を持たないものであるとはいえ、絶え間なく栄え衰えて四季が尽きることがない。

Preface to the Treatise on the Nature of Plants and Trees
As Zichan of Zheng said, "People's hearts differ just as their faces do." Therefore, what people prefer in their daily lives is also not the same. The qin, poetry, wine, tea ceremony, and go - each brings joy to human emotions according to what one's nature prefers. What my nature prefers has always been plants and trees. Although plants and trees are said to be without emotions, they ceaselessly flourish and decline, and the four seasons never end.
