　一　書中では専ら草木の性質が奇異なるものについて、その名称の間違いを考証し訂正し、漢名の下に書名を註するのは、その名の出典を示すためである。漢名がまだ詳らかでないものは国音（日本語音）をもってこれを挙げ、漢名の傍らに和名を記す。しかしながら方言は甚だ多く、ただ耳に慣れ親しんだものを記し、少しばかり鄙説（民間の説）を設けて、その性質が互いに食い違うものを挙げる。しかしながら数が多くて、すべてを一つ一つ挙げるには時間がなく、わずかに管見（狭い見識）の及ぶところ、ただ千百のうちの一つである。

General Principles
1. This book specializes in plants and trees with unusual properties, examining and correcting errors in their nomenclature. The book titles annotated below the Chinese names indicate the sources of those names. For Chinese names that are not yet clearly established, Japanese phonetic readings are used, and Japanese names are recorded alongside the Chinese names. However, since regional dialects are extremely numerous, only those familiar to the ear are recorded, and some folk explanations are included to highlight cases where the properties contradict each other. Nevertheless, there are so many that there is no time to enumerate them all exhaustively, and what my limited observation can reach is merely one out of a thousand.
