土佐国（トサノクニ）栗之御崎（クリノミサキ）二十町 沖（ヲキ）ノ海底（ウミソコ）ノ産（サン）本朝（ホンテウ）
硯石（スヾリイシ）ノ至品（シヒン）ナリ文字関石（モシセキイシ）ト名（ナヅ）ク又土佑ノ
青石（アヲイシ）或ハ島硯（シマスヾリ）ナドイヘリ其（ソノ）色（イロ）青黒（アヲクロク）シテ赤（アカキ）
筋（スヂ）アリ毎年（マイネン）三月三日 大干潟（ヲホヒカタ）ニテ二丁 余（ヨ）モ潮（シホ）

文字関石（もじせきいし）十一
土佐国栗之御崎の二十町沖の海底で産出する。本朝の硯石の最高品である。文字関石と名付けられ、また土佐の青石、あるいは島硯などと呼ばれる。その色は青黒く、赤い筋がある。毎年三月三日の大干潮の時に、二町余りも潮が引く。昔からの慣例で、当地の西寺の僧たちが多数出てきて海辺に立ち、経を読む。その経が終わらない間に沖へ走って行き、干潟の砂の中で拾い取るのである。

Mojiseki Stone (Inscribed Characters Stone) - Item 11
This stone is found on the seabed twenty chō offshore from Kuri-no-misaki in Tosa Province. It is considered the finest quality inkstone material in Japan. It is called Mojiseki Stone, and is also known as Tosa Blue Stone or Island Inkstone. Its color is blue-black with red veins. Every year on March 3rd, during the great low tide, the water recedes more than two chō. Following an ancient custom, many monks from the local Nishi-dera temple come out and stand on the seashore, chanting sutras. While the sutra recitation continues, they rush out to the offshore area and collect the stones from the sand of the tidal flats.
