吹からに秋の草木のしほるれば
うべ山風を あらしといふらん
秋の哥也
秋の草や木がしほれるを見ればそのまゝ
なるほどがてんが行くかやうに草木を 文
あらすものゆへえゑ山かぜを世上で
あらしといふであらうと也 屋
嵐といふ字は山風と書たるものゆゑ
それを思ひよりてよまれしなるべし 康
うべとは俗になるほどといへるに同じ
うべやまといふ山の名にあらずうべと 秀

現代語訳
【右丁】
風吹くからに秋の草木のしをるれば
むべ山風をあらしといふらむ
秋の歌である。
秋の草や木がしおれるのを見ると、そのままなるほど合点がいく。このように草木を荒らすものゆえ、ああ山風を世間では「嵐」というのであろう、ということである。
「嵐」という字は「山風」と書いたものゆえ、それを思いついて詠まれたのであろう。
「むべ」とは俗に「なるほど」というのと同じである。「うべ山」という山の名ではない。「むべ」と少し引き延ばすようにして詠むべきである。

【左丁】
月見れば千々に物こそ悲しけれ
我が身ひとつの秋にはあらねど
これも秋の歌である。さて心は、
月を見るといろいろさまざまに物悲しく思われることである。我が身一人だけの秋というのでもなく、誰もみな同じ秋なのに、我が身ばかりのように物思いにふけってしまう、ということである。
総じて秋の景色は物悲しいもので、月などを見るとさまざまに感情が起こるものである。

truly we may call the mountain wind "arashi" (storm).

When one sees the autumn grasses and trees withering, one naturally understands and agrees. Since it is something that ravages the plants in this way, ah, this is why people in the world call the mountain wind "arashi" (storm).
The character for "arashi" (嵐) is written as "mountain wind" (山風), so this poem was probably composed with that in mind.
"Mube" means the same as "naruhodo" (indeed) in common speech. It is not the name of a mountain called "Ube-yama." It should be pronounced "mube" with a slight elongation.

When I gaze at the moon, countless things seem sad—
though this autumn is not mine alone.

When I look at the moon, various things seem melancholy in many different ways. Though this is not an autumn belonging to me alone, and everyone shares the same autumn, it feels as if I alone am lost in contemplation.
Generally, autumn scenery is melancholy, and when one looks at the moon and such things, various emotions naturally arise.
