かりねの みをつくしてや
難波江の葦の
ひとよ故 恋わたるべき
旅の宿にて逢恋といふ題にてよまれ行程
哥也心はなにわあたりの旅路に思ふ人に 皇
逢てもたゞ一夜の事ゆゑそれをなごり
をしくわかれがたくおもひて死るまで一 嘉
生恋ひくらすであらうとおもはるゝと也
かりそめによそにねることをかりねといふ 門
それをあしをわりたるあしの根にとり 院
なしてそのかりたる根のふしとふしとの
間ひとつをよといへば一夜のことにいひ 別

忍恋といふ題にてよませ給ひし哥也
心は恋することを人にしられまいとつゝみ 式子内親王

ながらへてゐたならば人にしられる事があらうもし
れぬと也玉の緒は玉をつらぬることを

現代語訳
【右丁】
難波江の葦のかりねの一夜故身を尽くしてや恋わたるべき
「旅の宿にて逢恋」という題で詠まれた歌である。心は、難波あたりの旅路で思う人に逢えても、ただ一夜のことなので、それを名残惜しく別れがたく思って、死ぬまで一生恋い暮らすことであろうと思われる、という意味である。
仮にそめに他所で寝ることを「かりね」という。それを葦を刈った「葦の根」に取りなして、その刈った根の節と節との間一つを「よ」と言えば一夜のことに言いなしたのである。「みをつくし」のことは前に言った。

玉の緒よ絶えなば絶えね長らえば忍ぶることの弱りもぞする
「忍恋」という題で詠ませ給った歌である。心は、恋することを人に知られまいと包み隠せば心も苦しいが、我が命よ、絶えるならばいっそ今のうちに絶えてしまえ。この世に長らえていたならば、人に知られることがあるかもしれない、という意味である。
「玉の緒」は玉を貫く緒のことを、それを命のことに例えて言うのである。「絶ゆ」「弱る」などと言える言葉は、みな玉の緒に寄せたことである。

On this one night of temporary lodging among the reeds of Naniwa Bay, shall I exhaust my very being in love?
This is a poem composed on the theme of "meeting one's love at a travel inn." The meaning is: even if I meet the person I long for on a journey around Naniwa, it is only for one night, so I will find it regrettably difficult to part, thinking I will spend my entire life longing until death.
Sleeping temporarily in an unfamiliar place is called "karine" (temporary sleep). This is connected to "ashi no ne" (reed roots), where reeds have been cut, and if you call the space between one node and another of those cut roots "yo," it becomes a play on "one night." The matter of "miwotskushi" was explained before.

O thread of life, if you must break, then break now - if I live on, my secret love may weaken and be revealed.
This is a poem composed on the theme of "secret love." The meaning is: if I try to conceal my love so that people won't know about it, my heart suffers, but O my life, if you are to end, then end now while I can keep the secret. If I were to live long in this world, people might come to know of it.
"Tama no o" refers to the thread that strings jewels together, used as a metaphor for life. Words like "break" and "weaken" all relate to this thread of jewels metaphor.
