況（いはんや）
後水尾の上皇 宸翰（しんかん）の五軸（ごぢく）の如（ごと）きに至（いたり）ては凡俗（ぼんぞく）曽（かつ）て聞見（もんけん）を絶（ぜつ）す
去（さ）れども又 大衆（たいしゆ）の中に吾（わが）好古（かうこ）の癖（へき）を怜（あはれ）む学匠（がくしやう）ありて毎時（まいじ）の款（くわん）
語（ご）にまのあたり秘籍（ひじやく）の大意（たいい）及（および）古記（こき）の標目（へうもく）等（とう）曲（つぶさ）に是（これ）を説示（ときしめ）さる
於戲（あゝ）これおのれが丹心（たんしん）を光嶽（くわうがく）の神靈（しんれい）冥（めい）に加護（かご）し給ふといふべし
豈（あに）感激（かんげき）せざらんや抑（そも〳〵）又（また）一大快事（いちだいくわいじ）ならずやこれに依（より）て集中（しふちゆう）たとひ
一小事蹟（いつせうじせき）といへども悉（こと〴〵く）皆（みな）《振り仮名：昭〻｜せう〳〵》たる古記（こき）中（ちゆう）より流出（りうしゆつ）して更（さら）に胷（きよう）
臆（おく）に任（まか）するものなしたゞ愚蒙（ぐもう）の悲（かな）しむべきはいはゆる聽（きけ）ども聞（きこ）
えざれば或（あるひ）は至要（しいえう）の説話（せつわ）を聞（きゝ）違（たが）へしことも多（おほ）からん
一 世（よ）の諺（ことわざ）にいへり未（いまだ）日光（につくわう）を視（み）ずは結構（けつこう）の語（ご）を發（はつ）すべからずと嗚呼（あゝ）

東照宮中の宏麗（くわうれい）なる尺寸（せきすん）も彫琢（てうたく）を竭（つく）さゞるところなく金玉（きんぎよく）瞳（ひとみ）を
射（い）奇工（きこう）魂（たましひ）を銷（せう）す彼（かの）黄金界（わうごんかい）白銀界（びやくごんかい）紫微（しび）靈宮（れいきう）集（あつ）めてこゝに大成（たいせい）すと
いふべしたとへ一 梁（りやう）一 楹（えい）の丹青（たんせい）を誌（しる）さんにもその殊裁（しゆさい）を委（くは）しう

いはず蓋（けだし）啻（たゞ）に卒尓（そつじ）の罪（つみ）を懼（おそ）るゝのみにはあらず深秘（しんひ）の古實（こじつ）は
得（え）て窺（うかゞ）ひ聞（き）くこと能（あた）はざるを以てなり歷覧（れきらん）の君子（くんし）請（こ）ふ靴（くつ）を隔（へだ）

ましてや後水尾上皇の宸翰（天皇の直筆）の五軸のごときに至っては、一般人はかつて見聞したことがない。
しかしながら、大衆の中に私の好古の癖を憐れむ学匠がいて、日々の親しい語らいの中で、直接秘籍の大意および古記の標目等を詳しく説き示してくださる。
ああ、これは私の丹心を光嶽の神霊が陰ながら加護してくださるというべきである。
どうして感激しないでいられようか。そもそもまた一大快事ではないか。これによって集中では、たとえ一つの小さな事跡といえども、すべて皆昭然たる古記の中から流出して、さらに胸臆に任せるものはない。ただ愚昧の悲しむべきは、いわゆる聞いても聞こえなければ、あるいは至要の説話を聞き違えたことも多いであろう。
一 世の諺に言っている。「まだ日光を見ないうちは結構の語を発してはいけない」と。ああ、格言である。この言葉について私もまたかつて言葉を設けて嘆いたことがある。
「神廟の経営が初めて成ってからこのかた、天下に堂社なし」と。けだし堂社が

ないのではない。日光のような堂社がないということである。そもそも
東照宮中の宏麗なることは、尺寸も彫琢を尽くさないところがなく、金玉は瞳を
射、奇工は魂を消す。あの黄金界・白銀界・紫微霊宮を集めてここに大成したというべきである。たとえ一梁一楹の丹青を記そうとしても、その特殊な意匠を詳しく
すれば筆も堪えずと辞し、紙先生も憐れみを請うであろう。故に今ただ金殿
玉楼の所在と壮観の大体のみを録して、詳しくその結構を言わない。
一 延年の東遊・武射祭・鎮火祭・入峰禅頂・当床舞・強飯等のごときは古来より
それぞれの最秘とすることなれば、容易にこれを記すべきではない。しかれ
ども世の口伝に存在して常に人の目撃するものなれば、また一向に
これを録さないことを得ない。故にただその件を挙げてその来由を明らかに
言わない。けだし単に卒爾の罪を恐れるのみではなく、深秘の古実は

Not to mention something like the five scrolls of Emperor Go-Mizunoo's imperial calligraphy—ordinary people have never had the opportunity to see or hear of them.
However, among the clergy there is a learned monk who takes pity on my antiquarian obsession, and in our daily intimate conversations, he directly explains in detail the essential meanings of secret texts and the contents of ancient records.
Ah, this must be said to be the divine spirits of Mount Kōgaku secretly protecting my sincere heart.
How could I not be moved to gratitude? Is this not also a great joy? Through this, everything in my collection—even the smallest historical episode—flows entirely from these clear and reliable ancient records, with nothing left to personal speculation. The only lamentable thing about my ignorance is that, as they say, if one hears but does not truly listen, I may have often misunderstood stories of utmost importance.
One: A common saying goes: "Until you have seen Nikkō, you should not speak of magnificence." Ah, what a maxim! Regarding this saying, I too once made a statement and lamented:
"Since the divine mausoleum's construction was first completed, there have been no temple buildings in all the land." Indeed, it's not that there are no temple buildings,

but rather that there are no temple buildings like those of Nikkō. Indeed,
the magnificence within Tōshōgū is such that every inch exhausts the art of carving, the gold and jewels
pierce the eye, and the miraculous craftsmanship dissolves the soul. It should be said that the Golden Realm, Silver Realm, and Purple Celestial Spirit Palace are all gathered here in great completion. Even to record the painted decorations of a single beam or pillar, if I were to detail its special design,
even the brush would refuse, saying it cannot bear it, and Master Paper would plead for mercy. Therefore, I now record only the locations of the golden halls and
jade towers and the general outline of their magnificent appearance, without describing their construction in detail.
One: Things like the延年 Eastern Dances, Archery Festival, Fire-Calming Festival, Mountain Asceticism and Meditation, Tōtoko Dance, and Forced Rice Ceremony have been
the deepest secrets of their respective traditions since ancient times, so they should not be easily recorded. However,
since they exist in popular oral tradition and are constantly witnessed by people, I also cannot
completely omit recording them. Therefore, I merely mention these items without clearly
explaining their origins. This is not only because I fear the sin of rashness, but because
