さへ神のみいつ【注①】に光そひつゝ世に
とゝろくを旅行ことの心にまかせ

とりてみれは不軽居士の言のはに露

ことくつほの石文ならねとのこるくま

【右丁】
さえも神の御威光に光を添えつつ、世に轟いているのを、旅行などを心のままにできない身は、どうして写し絵にでも粗末にお参りしようかと、新しい年月、心の内に願い続けてきたのである。
そのようであったところに、八王子の植田孟縉が役目でかの御山にしばしば行き来しつつ、五巻の書を書き表した。

弘賢に一言を添えよと乞われて、取って見れば、不軽居士の言葉に露ほども違うことなく、かの年月願ったことは、壺の石文ではないけれども、残るくまなく書き尽くされているので、世に有り難く畏れ多く嬉しく、大いに感嘆するあまりに、このように記し付けたのである。

Even these [waterfalls and natural features] add their light to the divine majesty of the deity, resounding throughout the world. Those of us who cannot travel at will have long wished in our hearts through the passing years that we might at least pay our respects humbly through pictures.
Under such circumstances, Ueda Mōshin of Hachiōji, in the course of his official duties, frequently traveled to and from that sacred mountain and wrote these five volumes.

When asked to add a word, Kōken took it and looked, and found that it did not differ even by a dewdrop from the words of Fukyō Koji (the Reverend Never-Despising), and that the wishes of those years were written out completely without omission—though not in stone inscriptions on ceremonial vessels—so that it was precious, awesome, and joyful to the world, and in great admiration I have thus recorded this.
