三郎平は女護の島に懲りはて、気を変えてぐっと離れた所へ行き、そこここと様子を見れば、いたって上品なる所。袖を見れば、おおかた八丈、さては八丈島かと思えば、縞縮緬もあり、上田島郡内。

島廻い、八丈太織島、一円過天行かずなんという所か、様子が知れず。「ここはどこでございますか」と尋ねれば「江戸湯島」と言うので、肝を潰し、さてさて諸々を見物したが、これほどの上国はない。米の飯と同じこと、いつまでいても飽きることなし。

Saburo-hei, having grown utterly tired of the Island of Women, changed his mood and went to a place quite far away. Looking around here and there at the situation, he found it to be an extremely refined place.
