浅井名（あさいな）の
教えに

一つの
島へ
上がり、のそのそと歩いて
いたが、この島は非常に格好よく、
ずんと軽やかな住まいの内に
低い窓があるので
覗き見ると、主人と見えて
何か物を書いているのを見ると、
青貝の机、筆立て、
軸も付いた、朱分、鎮、硯の
結構な様子が見えて、
飯を食うのを見れば深染め
付けの茶碗、八仙人の
絵の描かれた鉢、塗師人に

Following Asaina's
teachings,
they climbed onto
one of the
islands
and walked about leisurely.
This island was very elegant,
and within the light, airy dwellings
there were low windows, so
when they peered in, they saw what appeared to be the master
writing something.
They could see blue mother-of-pearl desk, brush stand,
with scroll attachments, vermillion ink pad, paperweight, inkstone—
all appearing quite fine.
When they watched him eat, [they saw] a deep-dyed
glazed tea bowl, a bowl with
paintings of the Eight Immortals, made by a lacquer craftsman,

worn from boredom,

The kotatsu futon was
of light yellow
with sarasa flower patterns—
even putting it in one's hair,

they gnashed their teeth,

Soga brothers,
how regrettable it is
to enter a treasure mountain
yet return
empty-handed!"
