事文類聚前集に云端午以菖蒲式は
緌或は屑泛酒又今日婦人戯れに菖蒲
を頭に挿みまた腰にまとふ如此すれは諸病
を除くといひならわせり歳時雑記に云
端午の日菖蒲艾を割みて小き人形に作
り又葫盧の形の如く是を帯れわ【はヵ】邪
気を辟と記せり又王沂公帖子云明
朝知是天中の節旋刻菖蒲要辟

邪五月五日艾菖蒲を戸の上に懸れは毒
気を払と見へたり又菖蒲酒をは陽気を
助け齢を延と云へり是等之趣によりて
乗尻已下従者鞍貝等に至るまて
蓬菖蒲付る事は此等《振り仮名：■｜のヵ》意味歟
太刀之事
一大刀にも皮之尻鞘を用ゆる事そも大刀は神
前廟前清浄之場におゐて専は是帯用
現代語訳
【右丁】
『事文類聚前集』に言うには、端午に菖蒲を冠の紐や髪飾りにしたり、細かく砕いて酒に浮かべたりする。また今日、婦人が戯れに菖蒲を頭に挿し、また腰に巻く。このようにすれば諸病を除くと言い習わされている。『歳時雑記』に言うには、端午の日に菖蒲と艾を削って小さい人形に作り、また瓢箪の形のようにして、これを帯びれば邪気を払うと記されている。また『王沂公帖子』に言うには、「明朝、これが天中の節句であることを知り、菖蒲を刻んで邪気を払おうとする」とある。

五月五日に艾と菖蒲を戸の上に掛ければ毒気を払うと見えている。また菖蒲酒は陽気を助け、寿命を延ばすと言われている。これらの趣旨により、乗尻以下従者や鞍負い等に至るまで蓬と菖蒲を付けることは、このような意味があるのであろうか。
太刀のこと
一、大刀にも革の尻鞘を用いることについて。そもそも大刀は神前や廟前の清浄な場において専ら帯用するものである。

The "Jiwen Leiju Qianji" (Classified Collection of Literary Matters, First Series) states that on the Dragon Boat Festival, sweet flag is used as hat cords or hair ornaments, or crushed finely and floated in wine. Also today, women playfully insert sweet flag in their hair and wrap it around their waist. It is customarily said that doing so will ward off various illnesses. The "Suiji Zaji" (Miscellaneous Records of Seasonal Events) states that on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, sweet flag and mugwort are carved into small human figures, or made into gourd-like shapes, and wearing these will repel evil spirits. Also, the "Wang Yigong Tiezi" states: "Tomorrow morning, knowing this is the festival of the heavenly center, I will carve sweet flag to ward off evil spirits."

It is recorded that hanging mugwort and sweet flag above doors on the fifth day of the fifth month will dispel poisonous vapors. Also, sweet flag wine is said to support positive energy and extend one's lifespan. Based on these principles, the practice of attaching mugwort and sweet flag to everyone from mounted attendants down to servants and pack-horse handlers may have this meaning.
