From this time forward, the shoulder garments of court dress (kamishimo) have continued to be used according to this precedent even into later generations, it is said. Also, during Takeda Shingen's time, it is said that the plain jacket (suō) was considered unsuitable for practical use, so 【Left Page】 the sleeves were cut to create long court dress (naga-kamishimo) for wear. Regarding the family crest, extending to the end of the Ashikaga house, Matsunaga Danjo Hisahide, a retainer of Miyoshi Nagayoshi, reasoned that "long hakama wrap around the feet and are not suitable for cautious wear," so he cut the hem for use. This is today's hakama. This began with Matsunaga, it is said. Generally, since hemp is a straightforward material, hemp court dress is worn during celebratory occasions.
