與不能者之形何以異とやら培養迚も風土に
事よせ杜撰なるハ不為ゆへなり探索侍
りてや風土を嫌ふ草なれハ培養不能也
その差別を悟さるハ所謂反のそめきに
して親愛せさるゆへならんか過し比華洛に
ありし時実生多く培養なしたれとも開
花の旬異る事なし余か此花ある事聞
伝へ我も〳〵と乞けるゆへ諸国迠譲り与へ
けれとも実生開花異るなけれハ風土を嫌ふ草に
あらす己か培養杜撰なる故ならん哉
花圃植盆植とも植付る時草の表を外へ
なすとかいつけたれとも草の表裏を撰ひ
植付るもの少けれとも打混しける時ハ科際
縺れ欝嵡せるゆへ肥痩の篠あるかゆへ花篠
長短あるのミならす花迚も大小ありて形状
うるわしからす此類草悉片根にして
表裏ある事人の知所なれとも耄碌侍りて
前に画図を顕せるも是もて書くハ及さる

無能な者と能力のない者の違いは何であろうか。培養といっても風土に
責任を転嫁して杜撰であるのは不適切だからである。探究して
みると風土を嫌う草であれば培養は不可能である。
その違いを理解しないのは、いわゆる反物の染め気のように
して親しまないからであろうか。過ぎし頃、京都に
いた時、実生を多く培養したけれども開
花の時期に違いはなかった。私がこの花を持っていることを聞き
伝えて、我も我もと乞うので、諸国まで譲り与え
たけれども、実生の開花に違いはないので風土を嫌う草では
なく、自分の培養が杜撰であるからであろうか。
花圃植えも盆植えも植え付ける時は草の表を外へ
向けると書いてあるけれども、草の表裏を選んで
植え付ける者は少なく、混ぜこぜにした時は株際が
もつれて密集するので、肥えたものと痩せた茎があるので花茎の
長短があるのみならず、花も大小があって形状が
美しくない。この類の草はすべて片根で
表裏があることは人の知るところであるが、老いぼれて
前に描いた図も、これをもって書くには及ばない
古根である。
