　せる人あらんなれとも盆植に養ふ時ハ花
　後植付なれハ肥過て欝嵡して翌夏憔悴
　して甚しきハ開花しかたしされｔとも親鍔と
　俗通せる器なれハ二篠植なれハ花後植付たり
　とも十分に肥開花しぬれとも花数少し

　春時彼岸前より胡麻粒程にして黄色の
　羽ありて背に黒き斑紋ある虫生し科本の
　枯葉の朽たる後にひそミ居て巳刻比より
　芽先へのほり嫰葉を喰ふ初夏に至てハ

　盛葉に卵をなせり人近付時は急散乱して
　見定かたし猛虫にいたりてハ　黐（トリモチ）もて取
　されハ取事かたし捨置時は憔悴して
　果ハ枯失せるも多く分る時ハ花菖蒲のミに
　かきらす似寄たる草にハ何となく取つきて
　喰尽せりされとも是迠花菖蒲なき地へ
　植る時ハ五六とせ経されハ生る事なしといへ
　とも草数多く植る時ハ虫の生る年数早く
　風土によりてハ此虫の憂をしらす

　　肥しの製法

する人があるだろうが、盆植えで育てる時は花
後の植え付けなので肥料が過多で密集して翌夏に憔悴
して甚だしい場合は開花が困難である。しかし親株と
俗に通じる器であれば二茎植えなので花後に植え付けても
十分に肥えて開花するけれども花数は少ない。

虫害
春季、彼岸前から胡麻粒ほどの大きさで黄色の
羽があり背に黒い斑紋がある虫が発生し、株元の
枯葉が朽ちた後に潜んでいて、午前中頃から
芽先へ上って嫩葉を食べる。初夏に至っては

盛んな葉に卵を産む。人が近づく時は急に散乱して
見定めがたい。成虫になっては鳥もち（トリモチ）で捕る
しかなければ捕ることが困難である。放置する時は憔悴して
ついには枯死するものも多く分かる。時には花菖蒲のみに
限らず似寄った草には何となく取り付いて
食い尽くしてしまう。しかしこれまで花菖蒲のない地へ
植える時は五、六年経なければ発生することはないと言う
けれども、草を多数植える時は虫の発生する年数が早く、
風土によってはこの虫の憂いを知らない。

Insect Pests
From before the spring equinox, insects about the size of sesame seeds appear, with yellow wings and black spotted patterns on their backs. They hide in the rotted remains of withered leaves at the base of the clumps and climb up to the shoot tips around mid-morning to eat the tender leaves. By early summer,

they lay eggs on the vigorous leaves. When people approach, they scatter quickly and are difficult to observe clearly. Once they become mature insects, they can only be caught with bird lime, making them difficult to capture. When left alone, many become emaciated and eventually die and wither away. Sometimes they attach not only to iris but also to similar plants and devour them completely. However, when planting in areas where iris have never grown before, it is said that these insects do not appear for five or six years, but when many plants are cultivated, the insects appear sooner. Depending on the climate and soil, some areas are unaware of the troubles caused by these insects.
