1. The twenty-ninth day. Clear skies. In the early hours of this morning, at the lower part of the Hour of the Rooster (approximately 7:00 p.m. the previous evening), the misogi (purification ritual) ceremony was performed as in previous years. After the proceedings at the baba (riding ground) seating had concluded, the senior priest (shōnegi) Mochiisa did not take his seat in the chōya (administrative hall) —
*[Marginal note in red: Concerning the jar that had been excavated from the Wakamiya shrine grounds and re-interred in its original location]*
— but instead proceeded to the shrine. The matter concerned the jar that had been dug up some days prior: it was to be re-interred within the grounds of the Wakamiya. With Shinkurō — a man who had been residing at the site previously occupied by Hogaku, from which the jar had been excavated — serving as guide, the jar was re-interred as before, slightly to the north-northeast of the center of the shrine precinct.
After this, Naizen-no-shō conducted the jisai (ground-purification ceremony). First, the jisai ceremony for the Shingū shrine grounds was performed following the procedures of the Gon-no-sha (the auxiliary shrine); next, the jisai ceremony for the Wakamiya shrine grounds was performed in the same manner. The proceedings gradually extended to the Hour of the Rat (approximately midnight), at which point the participants withdrew.
