The 20th day. Clear skies. This morning at the Palace (Imperial Court), a formal ceremony (*jin'gi*) for the pillar-raising and ridge-beam raising (*jōtō*) of the main hall was conducted. Accordingly, the envoy bearing the Imperial Rescript (*senjishi*) arrived today at the Hour of the Snake (approximately 10:00 a.m.). He first stopped at the lodgings of the *zassho* (administrative officer) Suetsada, where he donned his formal court robes (*sokutai*). As the appointed time approached, the Imperial Rescript envoy — *(furigana reading: Miyoshi no Zentaishi Hidekate)* — along with the deputy envoy Muneoka Ryōkō, and the bearer of the inspection box (*rankō*) *(marginal note: a functionary called Shissei, a samurai)*, each received a purification ritual (*harae*) performed by the Bureau of Onmyō (*Onmyōryō*) near the First Torii gate.
