(The Head Priest,) arriving at the Hashidono from the Tamabashi (Jeweled Bridge). *(Marginal note: Entering from the north entrance of the Hashidono, seated with north as the position of honor, facing east, opposite the Imperial Rescript envoy.)* Next, the bearer of the inspection box (*rankō*) took out the Imperial Rescript for the pillar-raising and passed it to the deputy envoy, who in turn passed it to the rescript envoy, who then passed it to the Head Priest. The Head Priest inspected it while it remained in the inspection box, and when finished, returned the inspection box to the deputy envoy. Next, the ceremony for the rescript pertaining to the ridge-beam raising was conducted in the same manner as before. With the Head Priest leading, all rose from their seats, and proceeding from the Tamabashi through the Rōmon (two-storied gate) and the Chūmon (middle gate), arrived before the sanctuary, where (the rescript) was placed upon the *odaiban* (offering stand). *(Marginal note: The double bow [sahai] was performed as usual. The rescript was placed upon the stand while still in the inspection box. Along the path from the Hashidono to the Tōrō (connecting corridor), the Shoshi-Tayū and the Higashi no Ichishō — furigana: Tamotsu (?) — carried the inspection box. This was done in accordance with the duties of the Shoshi.)* Next, the rescript envoy rose from his seat at the Hashidono, performed a bow (*yū*), and proceeded through the Tamabashi and Rōmon to the Chūmon, where the party lined up inside. The Head Priest, having completed the offering of the rescript, emerged together with the remaining shrine priests to the waiting area (*tamari*) north of the Chūmon and exchanged a formal bow with the rescript envoy. The rescript envoy then withdrew and proceeded to the *chōya* (administrative hall). Subsequently, the Head Priest removed the rescript from before the sanctuary, and all dispersed. *(Written in red: Regarding the banquet for the Imperial Rescript envoy at the chōya)* *(Marginal note: On the cutting board [kirita], with west as the seat of honor and facing north, the ujibito and the Shatori Kōshū (shrine-side assembly) took their seats in order. Ujishō, Yasumitsu, and Genkyū, wearing informal robes [hōi], were seated on the same cutting board with west as the seat of honor, facing south, opposite the rescript envoy.)* Next came the ceremony of the three-cup passing (*hikiwatashi sanpai*). Then at the second round of *usō* (a type of offering or dish), gifts (*kimono*) were presented. These consisted of horses, tachi swords, and horse-substitutes (monetary equivalents): five *kan* for the rescript envoy, three *kan* for the deputy envoy, and two *kan* for the inspection box bearer. Next, a clear soup *(marginal note: whole fish — crucian carp)* was served, after which all dispersed. The serving at the right was performed by *aozamurai* (blue-robed attendants). *(Marginal note: As there were no aozamurai available at this time, they were hired from Kyoto, and dressed in blue hunting robes [kariginu].)* *(Written in red: Procedure for the Pillar-Raising at the Main Shrine)* 1. The 22nd day. Clear skies. Today, at the Hour of the Dragon (approximately 8:00 a.m.), the honorable pillar-raising (*o-hashira-date*) of the main shrine was to take place. First, at the lower half of the Hour of the Rabbit (approximately 7:00 a.m.), the morning offerings (*asagoso*) were presented. *(Marginal note: The Shūgen, Shidai-kanshu, and Samanosuke Toshinao [attended].)* Although the appointed hour was drawing near, the shrine priests were late in assembling, and despite repeated summons sent via shrine servants (*jinin*), they did not appear. Since it appeared that the deadline of the Hour of the Dragon would pass, word was sent to Lord Gomi's deputy (*bugyō*) and Lord Nakabō's deputy.
