(Continued from the previous page) The Zusho-no-suke (Assistant Director of the Bureau of Books and Drawings) sat facing south, with west as the honored position, facing Morikatu who was seated. The procedure for the noon presentation of the Three-Cup Ceremony (sankon) was carried out. Next, as the presentation items (kachikuri, noshi, kōfu), three cups were offered. Next, during the addition of "hōsō" (with the kumi-kake [cup-sharing]), the blue-robed attendant (ao-zamurai) brought a sword and a folded paper (origami) and placed them before Morikatu. These were received with reverence and placed to the left (horse equivalent: 300 hiki). Next, in the same manner as before, [these] were placed before the deputy messenger and set to the left (horse equivalent: 200 hiki). Next, soup (maru-mono with crucian carp) and cups (ai) were served; the Three-Cup Ceremony was completed. Next, side dishes (tai no kokushi [dried sea bream] and konnyaku-fu [konnyaku cloth]) were prepared on unglazed earthenware dishes (kawarake). From this point onward, the drinking became informal (midare-zake), and for those of lower standing, sake was served with accompanying side dishes (the servers were six financial officials [suitō], dressed in formal upper-and-lower garments [kamishimo]). When the drinking concluded, everyone dispersed. The companions at the time of the sake were Bichū, Ukon-no-shōgen, Shuzenshō, and Ōi. The serving for the imperial messenger was done by the blue-robed attendants (ao-zamurai) (however, as there were no blue-robed attendants available, they were hired in Kyoto and dressed in uchikari-ginu [a type of hunting robe] and white robes). Next, the shrine officials (shashi) descended from the Chūmon via the bridge, passing through the Second Torii and then the First Torii, and departed. Item: On the same evening, a gathering (yoriai) was held at the Eidō (Shadow Hall/Memorial Hall). This was a deliberation on the matter that they should go to pay respects to the Tensō [court liaison] the following day. Item: On the 7th morning, the sky was clear. A gathering was held. The deliberation concerned the written lists of various craftsmen (shoku-nin). [In red ink: Concerning the matter of the Shinpō Gyōjikan's procurement of sacred treasures (shinpō)] Item: On the same day, rumors spread that the Gyōjikan (administrative official) of the sacred treasures (shinpō) was about to take receipt of [the treasures], and so the shrine officials (shashi-shū) were alarmed and dispatched a messenger to the entire community (sōchū). A gathering was immediately convened at the Mori-dokoro (the Mori office/location), and the clan members (ujibito-shū) attended, discussed the matter, and resolved to petition that the affairs concerning the sacred treasures should be handled within the shrine community. Accordingly, eight persons — Ōi, Nagato, Shuzen, Bichū, Nuido, Shume-no-suke, Uemon-taifu, and Jirōsaku — along with the shrine officials Jibu, Kunai, and Hyōbu…
