...Kaan, Kunai (the second son of the Hafuri [shrine priest]), making five persons in total. After lengthy deliberations, they proceeded to the deputy magistrate (shimo-bugyō), Enami Shichirōemon, and presented the aforementioned matters to him, to which he replied: "This will no doubt become the subject of rumor and gossip, but that aside, it would be best to wait until Kin'emon-dono arrives tomorrow morning (before taking any action)."
Item: On the same day, from today, the work on the hamatoko (ceremonial platform/preparation stand) for the sacred treasures (shinpō) was begun. The master carpenter and all those below him descended (to the site) dressed in formal sleeveless jackets (katakinu) and linen hakama (nunobakama). To the south of the Kyōsho (scripture hall) and the shokudō (dining hall), a wooden shed (koya) was constructed, designated as the "shinpō no koya" (shed for the sacred treasures), and kept separate from the workshops of the various other craftsmen.
[In red ink: Concerning the sacred treasures — same as above]
Item: On the 8th day, the sky was clear. Early in the morning, a letter arrived from Furuī Kihē-dono to Enami Shichirōemon-dono. Its contents were as follows: regarding the matter that the Gyōjikan (administrative official) had examined the order list (chūmon) for this occasion's sacred treasures and had petitioned that it was unnecessary to add (so many items) to the sacred treasures of the auxiliary shrine (gonsha), Gomi-dono consulted with Shūshū (Itakura Suruga-no-kami [the Governor of Suruga]), who replied: "Quickly summon the shrine families (shake) and also call in the Gyōjikan, and I will hear both sides." A letter was therefore sent urging Matsushita, Mori, and the two zassho (general administrators) to come forth immediately. Accordingly, four persons — Mori, Matsushita, and the two zassho — went to Gomi-dono's residence, where Gomi-dono stated: "According to what the Gyōjikan has put together, it has been the ancient custom that the temporary shrine (karidono) should not be furnished in the same manner as the main shrine (honsha); there are fourteen varieties of shrine chambers (shinshitsu). Furthermore, that there should be fifty-two varieties from Kamo seems excessively inconsistent with this, and is suspicious. I suggest you go to Shūshū (Itakura Suruga-no-kami) and present your case reasonably." Thereupon, accompanied by Gomi-dono, they proceeded to Itakura Suruga-no-kami's residence, where Shūshū stated: "Well…"
