《Marginal note (in red): Regarding the imperial decree (chokusho) from the Kagen era, stating that the shin'pō (sacred treasures) are to be prepared and presented by the sha-ke (shrine family)》
(Continued from the previous page) ...It was decided that (negotiations) should be conducted in accordance with the stated position (申し分), and that early the following morning they should proceed to the Tensō. Accordingly, in the records of the construction (zōei) of the third year of Kagen (1305), sixth month, it is noted that, as the allocation for both shrines (ryōden), items such as a pair of folding screens (byōbu) were listed, along with their dimensions. Furthermore, there exists a retained copy (tome) of an imperial decree stating that whereas in ancient times (jōko) the Gyōjikan had performed (the preparation of sacred treasures), from the Kagen era onward, this duty was to be carried out by the sha-ke (shrine family). The original document has been lost, but the copy bears the counterseal (fukusa-zaisho) of the Uchū-ben (Right Middle Controller), and is addressed to "Kamo Kannushi-dono." In the same document (record), there is also a copy stating that "before the Bun'ei era, the Gyōjikan handled this, but thereafter it was to be managed by the sha-ke."
Item: On the same evening, an envoy (satanin) was dispatched from the Eidō (memorial hall) to Mori's residence, and the reply was as follows:
"Regarding the raising of pillars, the question of which pillar should be raised first and similar matters can be found in the old records; however, the ceremonial robes of the carpenters (daiku), and the shrine ceremonies (sha-gi) involving the Hafuri priests are not found therein. Furthermore, there are many precedents in which the pillar-raising and the ridge-pole ceremony (jōtō) occurred on the same day. There appear to be no precedents for holding them on separate days." As for the proposal that the pillars be wrapped in cloth: the reply indicated that brocade (nishiki) and the like would be excessively lavish, and that in any case, such a thing was not to be found in the old records.
Item: On the same day, (someone went) to see the place at the Yamato carpenters' wooden shed where the framework was being erected — (continued on a separate sheet)
《Marginal note (in red): Regarding the matter of the sacred treasures being ordered to be prepared and presented by the sha-ke》
Item: Ninth day. In accordance with the deliberations of the previous night, (a delegation) proceeded to the Tensō to present the shrine family's case regarding the sacred treasures (shin'pō). The Kannushi (Chief Priest), Shō-negi (Senior Ritualist), Samanosuke, Kazuenokami, and the two Zassho attended. Upon their arrival at the Tensō's residence...
