【Continuation of the Pillar-Raising Ceremony】
Afterward, the evening offerings (yū no gosō) were made as usual. As court musicians (gakunin) happened to be present at that time, there was musical accompaniment for the evening offerings. The Lord of Awaji participated in the offerings. First, the four master carpenters (tōryō) [still in their attire from the adze-inauguration ceremony (chōna-hajime)] awaited the arrival of the shrine administrators (shashi) and clan members (ujibito), and proceeded to the auxiliary shrine (gonsha).
Next, the clan members (ujibito) attended in full from their respective residences without exception. Among them, those of seniority were: First Elder — Junior Assistant of Palace Upkeep (Kunai-shōyū) Yasumochi [wearing kazaori cap and sashinuki trousers; Second Elder] — Lord of Aki (Ujisaka) [tall eboshi cap and sashinuki trousers; arrived slightly late]; Third Elder — Lord of Izumo (Ujimasu) [in jōe, a white hemp robe]. Below these, some sixty to seventy clan members took their places in the sukiro (open-air corridor) [arranged north-upward, facing west, each with one round straw mat]. In addition, some were seated in the daily-offering storehouse (higu goryō-ya).
Next, the four magistrates (bugyō) [whose names appear earlier in the record] took their seats on a slightly elevated earthen mound (doi) just outside the western mogari fence [arranged north-upward, facing east].
Next, the shrine administrators (shashi), inside the daily-offering storehouse (higu goryō-ya), had the ritual abstinence shelf (shōjin-dana) that had been set up directly in front of the auxiliary shrine carried away, and took their seats in the space thus cleared.
Next, all were seated, though somewhat crowded together (each with one round straw mat). The central position was designated as the seat of honor. Each wore a kazaori cap and hunting robe (kariginu). At the center sat the Chief Priest (kannagi/kannushi) and the Senior Ritual Master (shō-hōri); to the west of the hōri sat the Deputy Ritual Master (gon-hōri); to the east of the Chief Priest sat Senior Ritualist (shō-negi) Mochiisa; further east, Deputy Ritualist (gon-negi) Mitsuhisa; further east, Kataoka Ritualist Nobuhira; to the east of him, Kataoka Ritual Master Yorihisa; further east, Former Chief Priest Ikuhisa. Behind the Senior Ritualist sat Mori Kunai (Hirohisa [written in red]); to his east, Hayashi Kunai (Shigechika [written in red]); and further east, Kifune Ritualist Nobuhisa. They were seated in this arrangement. Then the remaining attendees were seated, though in some disorder.
Next, the Chief Priest summoned the foreman (sakusho) and announced to the carpenters: "The raising of the sacred pillars shall now commence." The carpenters received this instruction and proceeded to raise the pillars.
First, the three sacred pillars of the eastern side were raised. [Because the board panels of the cylindrical structure (dō) are fitted and joined together, the three pillars are raised simultaneously.] Next, the three sacred pillars of the western side were raised. [This too was done as before.] Next, the two sacred pillars of the northern side were raised. [They were raised simultaneously, as before.]
