[Red annotation: Regarding the resolution of the matter of the error in cutting the sacred robes]
Item: On the same day, the clan members (ujibito) sent messengers to both the shrine administrators (shashi) and the senior ladies supervising the sacred robes (onfu-jōrō) to formally censure them regarding the failure of "kaku" (the proper execution/cutting) in the sacred robes. The shrine administrators and the senior ladies conducted various investigations; however, in the end, the fault appeared to lie with the shrine administrators. Mochiiku and Setsukyū, the two individuals concerned, came forward and stated: "As things were exceedingly pressing on this occasion, the cutting was carried out without prior consultation, and this is why such an investigation has arisen. Henceforth, we shall duly consult with the senior ladies in charge of the sacred robes before undertaking the cutting and sewing. We humbly request that you convey this reasoning to the assembly as a whole." The full assembly (sōnaka) accepted this explanation, and furthermore, through the two individuals, Sakyo-no-Shin Yasunaga and Saemon-no-Suke Shigenobu [red vertical marks], a firm message was delivered: "It is because such an investigation was conducted in this manner that the 'kaku' in the sacred robes came about as it did; this is surely in accordance with the divine will (shinryo). Henceforth, be ever more careful and diligent." This matter was thus concluded.
In response, the shrine administrators replied: "In light of such censure from the full assembly, we shall carefully reflect upon where the true error lay, and henceforth endeavor to perform our duties strictly in accordance with proper precedent and ceremony..." (continues on next page)
