英語訳

(Continued from the 8th day) On this day (the 8th), they began for the first time to demolish the two-storied gate (rōmon). 1. The 9th day. Rain all day. Early in the morning, Lord Gomi arrived, and ujibito including Mimasaka-no-kami, Ōinokami, and Iyo-no-kami assembled, and responses were given regarding various matters pertaining to the shrine precinct. 2. The 10th day. They began erecting the pillars on the north side of the storage/custodial room (azukari-beya). As the stone wall on the south side was not yet complete, the carpenters reported that only the north side would be erected first. From this day, the thatching of the御局 (o-tsubone, inner chamber/ladies' quarters) with cypress bark (hiwada) began. 3. The 11th day. Rain all day, with occasional intervals of clearing and clouding. 4. The 12th day. Clear skies, heavy rain at night. The details of today's affairs are recorded in the Sōchū Hinami-ki (the collective daily record). 《Interlinear note (in red): On the same day, the Senza-harae (Thousand-Seat Purification Ceremony) was performed at the O-shoya (御所屋, the sacred hall). At the morning rites of the 5th, the sacred doors were not opened at the time of the door-opening ceremony, and prayers were instead conducted [with the doors closed]. [From] the Shūken Diary (Shūken Nikki).》 5. The 13th day. Clear skies, cloudy, with occasional rain. Today, the kannagi (shrine priest) Takahisa, the zassho (administrative official) Uemon-no-taiyū, and the Mokku-no-jō, two or three persons in all, visited Lord Gomi. They called upon him in connection with the message sent the previous day, and presented in detail the particulars of the buildings (structures). It was then agreed and settled that the construction of the buildings would proceed with his approval. 6. The 18th day. The pillars of the O-heiden (sacred offering hall) were erected. Furthermore, since the stone wall of the custodial room was now complete, the foundation stones (todai) were laid/positioned. 7. The 19th day. The ridgepole-raising ceremony (munage) was held for the middle gate (chūmon), the custodial room, and other structures. 《Interlinear note (in red): Lord Nakabō Chōbei was appointed as co-magistrate (ai-bugyō) alongside Lord Gomi Kin'emon.》 8. On the same day, Lord Gomi and Lord Nakabō Chōbei arrived. It was announced by Lord Gomi that from this day forward, Lord Nakabō Chōbei was appointed as co-magistrate (ai-bugyō). Sake was presented in offering from the sōchū (the entire community). The shrine officials (shashi) and ujibito assembled; among the shashi were Yukihisa and Ikuhisa, and among the ujibito——[text continues on next page]
