(Continued from previous page) For the prayers (gokitō) of that day, one Mokku-no-jō was sent as messenger. 1. On the same day, Lord Ichirobei was appointed as a deputy (proxy) for Lord Furuii Kihei, and was attached as a person-subordinating magistrate (hitoshita-bugyō). This was because Lord Furuii was suffering from illness. 2. The 28th day. Rainy weather. As it had been raining throughout this period and also the previous night, a sudden flood arose and it appeared likely to reach the riding ground (baba). People of all ranks gathered together to guard the riverbanks. The magistrate (bugyō) Lord Enami came out and stated that "if water were to reach the freshly planed lumber and the like, it would constitute a failure (ochido) of the Kamo sōchū." Thereupon, everyone was alarmed and set about defending the riverbanks. In particular, the river embankment (kawayoke) on the southwest (hitsuji) side of the riding ground began to collapse, and water had already begun to reach the riding ground. 《Interlinear heading: On the transport of the sacred treasures (shinpō) of the Main Shrine to the old Provisional Shrine (Gonden)》【Written in red ink】 3. The 30th day (the last day of the month). Alternately cloudy and clear, with rain. This morning, the sacred treasures of the Main Shrine were moved into the old Provisional Shrine (karigon-sha). The hama-doko (ritual flooring), tatami mats, and the like were left as they were within the Main Shrine. The other sacred treasures — including the karabitsu (Chinese-style chests), kichō (standing curtains), the sacred sword (mitsurugi), the sacred halberd (mihoko), and other shinpō — were transferred to the Provisional Shrine. The shrine officials (shashi) entered the Main Shrine to arrange and bring out the sacred treasures, while the ujibito (shrine clan members) entered the Provisional Shrine to receive and store the sacred treasures brought out from the Main Shrine. The relay/conveyance along the passageway was also performed by the ujibito. The role of the key-bearer (okagi): for the Main Shrine — [blank]; for the Provisional Shrine — [blank]. The Shōhōri (chief ritualist) did not attend due to mourning for his father. The kannagi (chief priest/shinshū) also did not attend due to mourning for his grandmother. Seihei and Yorihisa were absent due to other impediments (kashō). The shrine officials (shashi) present were five persons: Ikyu, Yukihisa, Mitsuhisa, Setsuhisa, and Shigemura.
