にとくる霜の如く跡方もなく落失けり

　　再騒動鋒起の事
去程に十月朔日夜半の頃原坂元一面
に騒立挑灯松明星の如く不残出よと
呼はつて其勢百人計と相見へて敵味方
のわかちもなく町内驚きさわきたち
すわや東ゟ騒動来りたりと上を下へ
とかへしける何もの共知す壱丈餘りの凡天
を持来り大勢にて此凡天を見あてに

現代語訳

食べ物に困窮している百姓たちは分別もなく浮かれ立った状態であったので、皆疲れ果てて次第に散り散りになって立ち去り、残った者はわずか五、六十人ほどになった。これが最後の働きをしようと、大和屋九兵衛の家を打ち壊し、十月一日の朝日に解ける霜のように跡形もなく散り失せてしまった。

　　再び騒動が起こったこと
そうして十月一日の夜半頃、原坂元一帯が騒然となり、提灯や松明が星のように点々と灯り、「残らず出てこい」と呼ばわって、その勢いは百人ほどと見え、敵味方の区別もなく町内は驚き騒ぎ立った。「さあ大変だ、東から騒動がやって来た」と上を下への大騒ぎとなった。何者ともわからぬ者たちが一丈余りの梵天を持参し、大勢でこの梵天を目印にして

The peasants, who were suffering from food shortages, lost all sense of reason in their excitement. They all became exhausted and gradually dispersed, with only about fifty or sixty people remaining. Declaring this to be their final act of defiance, they destroyed the house of Yamato-ya Kyūbei and then scattered without a trace like frost melting in the morning sun of the first day of October.

　　The Second Uprising
And so, around midnight on the first day of October, the entire Harasaka-moto area erupted into chaos. Lanterns and torches dotted the scene like stars, and voices called out "Everyone come out!" The force appeared to number about a hundred people. With no distinction between enemy and ally, the townspeople were thrown into panic and uproar. "This is terrible! A riot is coming from the east!" they cried, turning everything upside down in their confusion. Unknown persons brought a bonten banner pole more than one jō in height, and a large crowd used this bonten as their rallying point.
