還俗候売買にも非ずして米穀数多く買い置きけるゆえ、彼の宅へ真一文字に押し寄せて「上州よりの騒動なり」と呼んで五六百人が暴れ込み、家内の雑物残らず取り出し、四壁の木に叩きかけ、或いは散々に切り刻み、大地に引き散らして踏みにじり、喜びの声を上げ、その足にて丹四郎・利兵衛などという両人をも打ち潰し、「これより岩村田へ案内せよ」と出ぬ者あらば焼き払えと喚き立てたので、皆々恐れて先に立って案内するぞと浅間し、かくされば道々の村々も皆従ってその数今は千余人となって行き、甚だ不知火のようにときめいて、十月二日の夕方に岩村田にぞ押し寄せる。岩村田は内藤公の御領地にて御在府の留守なれば、甚だ小勢にて郡代・職代官中が評議の上、百姓騒動の事、家敷へ手向かいも有るまじければ、とても及ばぬ処に大手・搦手

They were not engaged in ordinary trading but had stockpiled large quantities of rice and grain. Therefore, the mob rushed straight to his residence, shouting "This is a riot from Jōshū!" Five or six hundred people stormed in, took out all the household goods without exception, smashed them against the wooden walls, or scattered them in pieces across the ground and trampled them underfoot, raising cries of joy. In the process, they also beat down two men named Tanshirō and Riheita. They demanded "Guide us to Iwamura-da from here!" threatening to burn down anyone who refused to come out. Everyone was frightened and volunteered to lead the way. As this continued, all the villages along the road joined in, and their numbers now swelled to over a thousand people. Making a tremendous clamor like wildfire, they pressed toward Iwamura-da on the evening of October 2nd. Iwamura-da was the domain of Lord Naitō, and since he was away in Edo, there was only a small force present. The district magistrates and deputy officials deliberated and concluded that regarding this peasant uprising, there would likely be no resistance at the residence, so despite their helpless situation, they prepared both frontal and flanking positions.
