They came and took care of [the blind parents] with such genuine filial piety that [the temple master], seeing this was no deception, immediately composed a poem:
"Two people traveling, one knows not the way
How pitiful are the blind
Three people traveling, how painful for one person"
Humming this, he gave them rice and other alms, and furthermore treated them to a meal. Setting out again, their destination was said to be Takayanagi, but kindness was found in Mukōda. At Hiruzaike, rather than going to collect money lent to a blacksmith, even if lying, they went out toward Hon-shinmachi, borrowing and receiving [alms] at Ōsawa, treading through grass to Suge-no-sawa. At Jike-zaike too, beggars went from gate to gate. At Mitsuzuka, Nozawa, and the plains, all together the children of Hana-Sakurai were separated into upper, middle, and lower [groups]. At Komiyama, longing and looking back, gazing far into the distance at the path behind, even those emerging from the unknown Kurasawa and Kabu-shimomura at Ima-oka gradually came to understand, and who could say there was no change of heart within? Even Takeda seemed resentful.
