その温度は大きく加わらない。これは生力がその温素を抑制して調節するからである。電気のようなものもまた欠損すれば補充し、鬱積すれば排除するなど、有機体においては造化普通の作用と異なる。
これによってこれを観察すると、生力は有機体に備わった霊妙不測の力である。思うにその有機体にあっては、無生の物質を変化させて生活区域に運び、諸器官を営み、諸液を醸成し、活動を起こし、生命を保続させる。そしてその妙用は千態万状であるけれども、これを統べれば畢竟ただ発生化育の機能と感覚活動の用途の二種類のみである。故に今これを綱領とし、その細目を分けることは次のようである。
およそ有機体でその具有する機器が簡素な者は、生力の発現もまた随って少ない。故に植物のようなものは、ただ発育の機能のみを有して覚動の用途がない。人身に至っては諸器官が豊富で経絡が貫通し、なおかつ弁識智慧を具するが故に、生力の発現は多端で殆ど究極がない。

Indeed, when present in organic bodies, it transforms lifeless matter and transports it to living domains, operates various organs, brews various fluids, generates activity, and maintains life. Although its wondrous functions are manifold in countless forms, when unified, they ultimately consist of only two types: the mechanism of generation and development, and the function of sensation and movement. Therefore, taking this as the main principle, the subdivision of its details is as follows:
Generally, in organic bodies whose constituent apparatus is simple, the manifestation of vital force is correspondingly minimal. Therefore, things like plants have only the mechanism of development and lack the function of sensation and movement. In the human body, however, the various organs are abundant, meridians penetrate throughout, and it possesses discrimination and wisdom; therefore, the manifestations of vital force are multifarious and virtually limitless.
Formative Force (Plastische Kraft)
Formative force is the power that governs the formation of the physical structure of organic bodies and constantly provides their cultivation and nourishment. Therefore, it also has the name "Restorative Force" (Wiedererfüllungskraft). When divided, this reduces to the following two forces:
