現代語訳

を生じ、梅毒が伝染して贅肉・骨腫を発し、癌毒が侵淫して危険で劇的な水綿様肉を作るなど、刺激・衝撃が激しければ成形力もまた随って増進する。しかしながら資生力と感応力とは、その運用もまた互いに相反する。故に資生力が衰弊して痩せ細り骨立すれば、感応力は随って亢進し過ぎ、脈は細数となり感動は鋭敏となる（労咳病において見るがごとし）。これをもって植物のごとき感応力が極めて微かな者に至っては、資生力がますます大いに盛んである。

人身は一つの支節もこれを切断すれば再び補綴することは難しい。しかして昆虫類は切って両段となしても更に首尾を生じて活動する者がある。草木に至ってはその幹を伐るといえども、また新芽を生じて再び繁茂する。また以って資生・感応両力の反対を見ることができる。

感応力（オプヴェキバールハイト又はプリッケルファットバールハイト）
眼の物を視る、耳の音を聴く、鼻の臭いを嗅ぐ、舌の食を味わう、肺の気を呼吸する、心の血を出納する、胃の飲食を化する、腎の小便を利するなど、皆これは外に感じて内に応ずる者があることによる。その然る所以の者を感応力と謂う。賦機力・成形力のごとく流体・凝体・植物等一般に具有せず、独り動物の凝体に稟賦されて一切の運動を主司する力である。またこれを二力に分つ。

However, vital force and responsive force are mutually antagonistic in their operation. Therefore, when vital force weakens and the body becomes emaciated with protruding bones, responsive force becomes excessively hyperactive, the pulse becomes thin and rapid, and sensitivity becomes acute (as seen in consumptive diseases). Thus, in organisms like plants where responsive force is extremely weak, vital force becomes increasingly vigorous.

In the human body, if even one limb segment is severed, it is difficult to regenerate it. However, among insects, there are those that, even when cut into two parts, can regenerate head and tail and remain active. As for plants, even when their trunk is cut down, they produce new shoots and flourish again. This also demonstrates the opposition between vital force and responsive force.

Responsive Force (Opwekkbaarheid or Prikkelvatbaarheid)
The eye seeing objects, the ear hearing sounds, the nose smelling odors, the tongue tasting food, the lungs breathing air, the heart circulating blood, the stomach digesting food and drink, the kidneys producing urine—all of these occur because there is something that senses externally and responds internally. What causes this to be so is called responsive force. Unlike vital force and morphogenic force, which are generally possessed by fluids, solids, plants, etc., this force is uniquely endowed in the solid matter of animals and governs all movement. This can also be divided into two forces.
