師恩の万分の一にでも報いることができれば、私にとっての大きな幸いであり、これに過ぎるものはない。

一、この編纂中の諸説は、毫も私見を交えず、諸書を纂集し、あちこちを相互に綴って文章を作成している。故に、あるいは前後照応しない所があるであろう。読者はそれを寛恕されたい。偶々私の愚見を加える所には「按」の字を冠している。

一、諸名称は大概榛斎先生の翻訳例に従っている。その欠如している者は私の浅見をもってこれを構成している。固より穏当でない者が多い。故に毎名条の下に各々原名を附して考照に備え、もって後の君子を待つ。但しその原名は和蘭語・羅甸語に限らず、これを襲用する人の慣習する所に随って、参閲に便するのみである。（編中原名の仮字に半濁の記号を副えたガ・ギ・グ・ゲ・ゴは喉より出る者にして、ハ・ヒ・フ・ヘ・ホに近似せる音なり）

一、或る人が言うには「この編は意義通達し論理精密を尽くしていると言うべきである。惜しむらくは文字が鄙俗にして雅でない。恰も美羹を馬槽に盛るが如しである。人で顧みる者があることは少ないであろう。蓋しこの挙は所謂病学の嚆矢なり。一たび世に布かれれば、天下後世必ず軌範をこれに資るであろう。実に凡庸の事業ではない。願わくは子よ、意を事物の名称等に注いで、再三これに改正を加えよ」と。私は言う「然り。私もまた嘗て文字を正し章句を明にし、法を後世に

If I could repay even one ten-thousandth of my teacher's benevolence, it would be my greatest fortune, and nothing could surpass this.

First, the various theories in this compilation do not mix in any personal opinions whatsoever, but collect from various books and weave them together to create the text. Therefore, there may be places where the text does not correspond well from beginning to end. Readers should be forgiving of this. Where I occasionally add my humble opinion, I preface it with the character "按" (note).

First, the various terminologies generally follow the translation examples of Master Shinsai. Those that are lacking I have constructed using my shallow understanding. Naturally, many are not appropriate. Therefore, under each terminology I attach the original names for reference and comparison, waiting for future scholars. However, these original names are not limited to Dutch and Latin, but follow the customary usage of those who employ them, merely for convenience of reference. (The original names in the text with half-voiced marks like ga, gi, gu, ge, go are sounds that come from the throat and are similar to ha, hi, fu, he, ho)

First, someone said: "This compilation should be said to have achieved clear meaning and precise logic throughout. Regrettably, the writing is vulgar and not elegant. It is exactly like serving fine soup in a horse trough. Few people would likely pay attention to it. However, this undertaking is the so-called beginning of pathology. Once it spreads to the world, all under heaven and future generations will surely use it as a standard. This is truly not an ordinary enterprise. Please focus your attention on the terminology of things and make repeated corrections to it." I say: "Yes.
