一 天明五年巳年五月、繭を浸すために居宅前の通川に杭を打ち留めて置いた所、東城戸村の重助が無断で杭を抜いたので咎めたところ、「水引きなので構わない」と申したため、不当な申し分と思い軽率に両度打擲した。用捨できない事であれば然るべき筋に申し出るべきことであったが、そうしなかった。旱魃の節に自分勝手に用水を浚い、もちろん重助が悪言して敵対すると思うなら刀を帯びて出るべき所を

Entry: In the fifth month of Tenmei 5 (1785), he had driven stakes into the Tōrikawa river in front of his residence to soak cocoons. When Jūsuke from Higashikido village removed the stakes without permission, he reproached him. Jūsuke replied that it was acceptable since it was for water diversion. Considering this an unreasonable argument, he rashly struck him twice. If this was an unpardonable matter, he should have reported it to the proper authorities, but he did not. During the drought, he selfishly dredged the irrigation water. Of course, if he thought Jūsuke was speaking ill and being hostile, he should have come out wearing his sword, but...
