私の友人である北峰山崎久郷は、実に優れた学者である。経書や史書に広く通じ、古今の学問を貫き通し、海外の典籍についても知らないものはない。特に我が国の典故に精通し、著作は非常に多く、すべて国家の文献として価値があり、実に有用な学問である。このため盛名が一時に広まり、文壇を見回しても、実に比類なき人物である。このたび「琉球入貢紀略」を著したので、私は北峰を訪ね、書斎でそれを手に入れた。何度も繰り返し読み、要点を把握し綱要をまとめてみると、考証は精密で、引用する証拠は詳細で審らかであり、珠玉の林を探るが如く、玉の海に浮かぶが如く、真に美を集めたと言えよう。私は彼に熱心に勧めて言った、「この書のためには、国字（ひらがな・カタカナ）で翻訳しなければ、子どもや一般の人々には

My friend Hokuhō Yamazaki Hisakuni is truly a remarkable scholar. He is well-versed in the classics and historical texts, has mastered learning both ancient and modern, and there are no foreign texts he does not understand. He is particularly well-versed in the historical precedents of our nation, his writings are voluminous, all serving as valuable national literature, representing truly practical scholarship. Therefore his great reputation spread throughout his time, and looking across the literary world, he truly has no equal. Recently he authored the "Record of Ryukyu's Tribute Missions," so I visited Hokuhō and obtained it from his study. Reading it repeatedly and grasping the main points and summarizing the essentials, I found the research to be precise, the cited evidence detailed and thorough - like exploring a forest of pearls, like floating on a sea of jade, it can truly be said to gather all that is beautiful.
