や誠に古今不思儀之事ニ御座候是と申も綿
類糸類今以横濱へ交易ニ相成候事と相見申
候いとなとハ常ニハ拾はが八九百文位いた
し右之所此節拾は分ニ而壱〆八百九百位ゟ
弐貫文位いたし候よし
当年ハ夏高はた壱反ニ而四十四五匁位之仕
入ニ有之候珍敷高直なる事薩广緕単物地平
年ハ壱反三十匁位より三十七八匁位いたし
居候所昨年中五十七八匁ニ相成誠ニ高直な
る事と申居候所当年ハ江戸表ニ而仕入れニ壱
反百拾五六匁ゟ下タハ無之よし郷中ハ都而
作り之品もの高直ニ而金融通宜敷様子ニ御

相成候よし之所下町辺ニ而出し候もの有之
現代語訳
や誠に古今不思議なことでございます。これと申すのも綿類糸類今以て横浜へ交易に相成ることと見受け申し候。糸などは常には十把が八九百文位いたし、右の所この節十把分にて一〆八百九百位より二貫文位いたし候よし。
当年は夏高機一反にて四十四五匁位の仕入れに有之候。珍しく高値なること。薩摩縞単物地、平年は一反三十匁位より三十七八匁位いたし居候所、昨年中五十七八匁に相成り誠に高値なることと申し居候所、当年は江戸表にて仕入れに一反百十五六匁より下は無之よし。郷中は都て作りの品物高値にて金融通宜しき様子にございますが、御家中様並びに市中買い暮らしいたし候間、諸品高値にては極々難渋いたし候事。
上方筋は御上洛後諸大名参勤等有之候に付き金回り至極宜しく、諸品高値などには更に構い申さず候よし。

Satsuma striped fabric for single garments normally costs around 30 monme to 37-38 monme per tan, but last year it rose to 57-58 monme, which was already considered very expensive. This year, when purchasing in Edo, there is nothing available below 115-116 monme per tan. In the countryside, all locally-made goods are expensive and money circulation seems good, but for samurai families and townspeople making their living through purchases, the high prices of all goods cause extreme hardship.
