(Continued from the previous page) Next, when the party departed from Shōjinji toward the First Torii (ichi-no-torii), the head priest and three or four shrine officials (shaji) and ujibito came to the inner gate to see them off, while the remaining one hundred or more ujibito stood facing west to the east of the First Torii, offered their farewell greetings, and then each dispersed. Next, in the vicinity of the Ujigami Shrine (Ujigami-sha), two or three persons besides the two officials came out to meet the party; they were shown around the interior of the grove, and then the party proceeded to Daitokuji. The chōya (administrative hall), sake-den (sake storehouse), and yu-ya (bathhouse) and other buildings had all been opened and made ready, but were not inspected on this day. The 14th Day: The stone-setting work (ishikake) at the shrine precincts and riverbank was redone and repaired. (Officials) came out as a gesture of thanks for yesterday's formal visit. The 15th Day (Clear): The harvest moon of recent years was particularly beautiful this year. At various households, there were gatherings for poetry and verse (shika-no-kai) [in honor of the moon], and so on. The 16th Day (Clear): The border/edges (heri) of the imigoya (a building used for ritual purification and seclusion) were replaced with plank-flooring (ita-tatami). During the Kan'ei era (1624–1644) everything had been proper tatami, but (now) planks were used to avoid the trouble of the construction work. The 17th Day: A meeting (yoriai) was held. Regarding the matter of the disciple of Chikurin, the dispute between him and Seishō was to be handled by the two persons, Kōwa and Shigetoyo. The author (yo, i.e., the diary-keeper) did not attend, as he was currently serving as the superintendent (bugyō) in charge of constructing the chindan (foundation-ritual altar/foundation ceremony) at the kōsho (lecture hall/study hall).
