- A messenger came from Igarashi Sōbei, requesting permission to enter the mountain to view the matsutake mushrooms. In response, it was said that when the mushrooms are at their peak, notice would be sent from this side. Additionally, a guide would be instructed to accompany whoever had been granted permission, and then the matter of [one unclear character] would be addressed. ◦ It was submitted that when a serving monk (gubu-sō) comes forth to perform the relic (śarīra) offering ceremony, the zōshiki (lower-ranking servants) should be assigned to attend. This is, however, something for which there is no precedent whatsoever. ◦ Today, apparently in preparation for the formal enshrinement ceremony (shō-sengū), the order form from the cabinetmaker (sashimonoya) Genzaemon was examined. It read: hinoki (Japanese cypress) medium insertion boxes, six layers, 18 monme. According to their reply, (the boxes would be) approximately 5 sun in height, with fittings extending around a circumference of approximately 7 to 8 sun, fitted with a cover lid; another item of 6 to 7 sun was also listed. Also, one paulownia box (kiribako), [dimensions unclear], approximately 1 shaku in height. When inquired about on the next occasion: As for the box used to contain the reliquary (śarīra-tō) during the temporary enshrinement (kari-sengū), it was answered that the height was approximately 1 shaku 2 sun and the width approximately 1 shaku square; and that some tens, or perhaps fifteen or so, had been made. ◦ From yesterday, an order was issued to construct a large earthen wall (ōbei) of three ken (approx. 5.4 meters) to the north of the gate of Jūrakuji temple. In connection with this, the monthly magistrate (tsuki-bugyō) [correction visible: "台" struck through, replaced with "直"], Shigетoshi, and three clan retainers (ujizamurai), along with Matsushita Mimbu and Nobuhisa, were summoned, and a rope was stretched to establish the boundary.
