Regarding the stone wall and earthen wall (construction), the preparatory groundwork was assigned to Jinemon and Nyūemon of Kyoto. The stones costing 48 monme have dressed (cut) stone faces on the front and rough fieldstone on the back. Until recently, this location had an earthen embankment (doi) and large zelkova trees. However, during the period when the Fuku clan held control of the land, they felled all the trees and sold them to Matsushita. At that time, the written agreement stated that "the western boundary is the river." When a rope was stretched from the boundary stone to the north, people discussed amongst themselves that (the line) might well shift approximately one ken (approximately 1.8 meters) to the west. In a previous year, when an investigation was conducted regarding the edge of the rear pond at the present residence (ima-zaike) in Yamamoto-chō, the offending structures were already made to be removed [one character unclear]. However, if this location is left without investigation, future boundary disputes at other sites will become impossible to resolve. Both those who received the land and those who transferred it allowed this situation to continue—the errors within the shrine community are without limit.
◦ Today, the assembly of serving monks (gubu-sō) filed a lawsuit with the public authorities (the bakufu) regarding the matter of the relic offering ceremony (śarīra kuyō).
8th day. Rainy. Daily offerings (nichiku). The inner rite (uchitori shinjи) was performed as customary.
According to what has been transmitted: the shrine priests (kannagi) and performers (yakusha) in charge of submitting reports were summoned and appeared. Hoka, Korehisa, and Hokata were present, and four members of Anyō-in, the temple of the serving monks, also came forth. At the audience, it was declared: "The śarīra offering ceremony this time is to be strictly prohibited (teishi)." It was also reported that this had been communicated to the public authorities (the bakufu). At that time, it was further declared: "At the time of the lawsuit the other day, it was shortly thereafter [text continues on next page]…"
