One sacred sword (御太刀): Crafted by the swordsmith Izuminosuke Tsugisaku; approximately one shaku eight sun in length. The handle is silver-plated, the scabbard is also finished with hammered silver (noshi-tsuke), and the hand guard (tsuba) and chape (kojiri) are made of brass (shinchū). One sacred halberd (御鉾): Also by the same maker (Izuminosuke Tsugisaku). Follows the precedent of previous ceremonies. One set of sacred bow and arrows (御弓矢): Follows precedent. However, it is rumored that the master carpenter (daiku) Sasuke received the commission and made them privately/discreetly, which is considered highly inappropriate. During the Kan'ei era, advance notice and coordination were properly carried out. One set of sacred vestments (御装束): Follows the old precedent. However, the color of the summer hem (natsu-suso) is excessively red, and the use of glossed/processed silk (neri-kinu) is a serious error. Since ancient times, the color should be reddish-black. Unprocessed raw silk (nerazu kinu) is the proper material for summer garments. Furthermore, the underlayer (shita-gasane)—which is layered above the hem—is also dyed with safflower (beni-zome), which is also a serious error. Originally, it should be a pale reddish color. The stone belt (ishi-obi) uses white agate (menō) stones. The length of the woven cord (amiyō) follows the usual convention. The sacred crown (mikasa) similarly has attached pendants (sui/okkazari). The cords are made of white silk thread in an eight-strand braid (ya-uchi). Shallow court shoes (asagutsu), silk-woven sandals (ito-kai), and straw sandals (waraji): the inner lining is fixed as brocade or silk. Sacred robes (go-fuku): two garments, each padded with one hundred monme of cotton wadding. Sacred lined robes (go-awase): two garments. The lining is entirely white thin silk; the outer fabric is white twill weave (shiro-aya) with a hollyhock and arabesque (aoi-karakusa) pattern. Hakama trousers (sashínuki): light purple ground with a hollyhock roundel (aoi-maru) pattern. Since ancient times, these featured large roundels (shiki-maru), but... [continues on the next page]
