It was thereupon reported that the horses would be led across the upper and lower bridges and paraded around the Hashidono three times. Passing through the Tama Bridge and entering the Romon (tower gate), the head of the Onmyoji (Divination Bureau), Kotoku, performs the ritual striking. The duties at the stone platform (ishidan) were deliberated upon, and after passing through the middle gate (chumon), each person removes their obuto (formal footwear cords). Concerning the area of the sand mounds (tatesuна) before the main shrine, the envoy's seat (chokushi-za), the curtained enclosure (tobarioya) before the Wakamiya Shrine, and the seats of the betto (administrator) and various scribes—the Great Counselor (Dainagon) ordered that notice be given to the betto when the time for the sacred transfer (senkyu) approaches. Furthermore, exiting the middle gate as before, the party descended and stopped at the lodging of the Imperial envoy for consultations. Torches were quietly prepared within the shrine and distributed to the lodging parties today. Each party was assigned one attendant (kimoiri) and two messengers to the lodging. First, today's daily offering (nikkyu) was conducted as usual, it being the day of the sacred provision watch. Around the Hour of the Sheep (approximately 2 p.m.), the shrine officials dressed in court robes (ikan) with cotton tasuki sashes and jutte, and ten ujibito (shrine attendants) together proceeded to the main shrine hall (the newly constructed hall). The hamayu beds of the inner sanctum were decorated and arranged, with shrine officials and ujibito mingling together in the decoration work.
