は戦争の始めにおいて「陸軍大臣」兼「参謀総長」
の官なり。その人最上の名誉の
ものに非ずといえども「フランス」国将帥中のかなり美名ある
ものなり。この人は一千八百九年第十月五日に
生まれ「パリ」府において工芸学校に入り「メッツ」において
兵学校に留まって学術を修行し、齢二十八歳に及んで
「大尉」となり、後九年を経て大砲隊の「少佐」
となる。一千八百四十八年に工芸学校の「副校長」
となりて三年の歳月を経て一千八百五十二年
