一 天正十年秀吉様国中御験地被成ニ付御奉行伊藤
大郎左衛門殿石川木工兵衛殿当所へ御出ニて当所ゟ昼は
方々え御出ニて夜当所ニ御宿可有之由生熊左助殿ヲ以
御申候間当所は出之（本ノマヽ）出入色々申候へ共無御同心候間則
御 所（前歟[朱]）へ罷出御検地之儀窺ヒ申候へは御検地被仰付候由候
一 当所ハようニちかひ申候間御奉行衆ハ当郷之内へ御免
奉頼存候他所へ出申候物成を指出可申付之由申上候
得は御棹可有御免候四方ニ竹を立無紛様ニ可仕之由被
仰出候間忝由申上罷帰り松崎之間ニ被成ことく竹ヲ
立申当郷之内へハ御棹一本も入れ不申候指出之義申候得共
皆々こわかり指出仕かね候間余延引仕候間さしいて
こわかり仕かね申候由申上候得は御棹も御免候間物成も
可有御免之由候外聞実儀忝義共無申計

また、その後にこのような御朱印状を取り調べて惣中へお送りいたしました。
一、当社（賀茂社）境内の竹木は一切伐り採るべからず。もし違犯する輩があれば、速やかに厳科（厳しい罰）に処すべきものなり。よって件のごとし。

賀茂社人中 重ねての御朱印を取り調べてお送りいたしました。
一、天正十年、秀吉様が国中の御検地をなさるにつき、御奉行の伊藤大郎左衛門殿・石川木工兵衛殿が当所へお出でになり、当所より昼は方々へお出かけになり、夜は当所に御宿泊なさるべき由を、生熊左助殿を通じて御申し越しがありました。ところが当所は（出入り・往来に関して）色々と申し上げましたが、御同心（ご同意）がいただけなかったため、すなわち
御所（前か〔朱書き〕）へ罷り出て、御検地の儀をうかがい申しましたところ、御検地をお命じになる由にて候。
一、当所は（神域として）誓約があり申し候間、御奉行衆は当郷の内へはお入りをご免ください、と頼み奉り存じ候。他所へ出る（田地の）物成を指し出して申し付くべき由を申し上げましたところ、御棹はご免なさるべく候。四方に竹を立てて紛れなきようにすべき由を仰せ出され候間、忝き（かたじけなき）由を申し上げ罷り帰り、松崎の間に（区画の）ごとく竹を立て申し、当郷の内へは御棹一本も入れ申さず候。指し出しの義（物成の申告）を申し候えども、皆々こわかり（細かく分けること、計算すること）し指し出し仕りかね候間、余（よ）に延引仕り候間、さしいて（差し出して）こわかり仕りかねる申し候由を申し上げましたところ、御棹もご免候間、物成もご免あるべき由にて候。外聞・実儀ともに忝き義、申し計り（申し尽くし）なく候。

Furthermore, after that, the following vermilion-seal document (御朱印状) was obtained and forwarded to the General Assembly (惣中).
One item: The bamboo and timber within the precincts of this shrine shall not be cut or harvested under any circumstances. Should there be any violators, they shall be promptly subjected to severe punishment. Thus it is as stated above.

To the Shrine Functionaries (社人中) of the Kamo Shrine A further vermilion-seal document has been obtained and forwarded.
One item: In Tenshō 10, when Lord Hideyoshi conducted a land survey (御検地) throughout the province, the survey magistrates (御奉行) — Lord Itō Daijōzaemon and Lord Ishikawa Mokubei — came to our location, and [they informed us] through Lord Ikuma Sasuke that they intended to go out to various places during the day from our location and lodge at our place at night. However, as we raised various objections regarding the comings and goings [of people into the sacred precincts], they would not give their assent. Therefore, we proceeded directly to
the [御所 /御前 — possibly "before the lord" (朱書き annotation in original)], and when we inquired about the matter of the land survey, we were told that a land survey had indeed been ordered.
One item: Since this place is bound by [sacred] vows [against outside intrusion], we humbly requested that the magistrates please refrain from entering within our village (当郷). We proposed that we would instead submit a declaration (指出) of the annual yield (物成) from the lands lying outside [the sacred precinct]. Upon this appeal, we were granted an exemption from the survey rod (御棹), on the condition that we erect bamboo [markers] on all four sides so that the boundaries would be clear and unmistakable. We gratefully accepted this, returned [to the shrine], erected bamboo [markers] in the manner of the Matsuzaki boundary, and did not allow a single survey rod to enter within our village. We did attempt to submit the declaration of yields, but as everyone found it exceedingly difficult to itemize and break down the figures precisely, we fell into considerable delay. We reported that we were unable to produce the itemized breakdown, whereupon we were told that since the survey rod was exempted, the annual yield [assessment] would also be exempted. Words cannot adequately express how grateful this was, both for our public reputation and in actual fact.
Although it has long been said that the six villages (六郷) constitute the shrine precincts, Ono-no-gō (小野郷) contains a mixture of other lords' lands, warrior landholdings, and lands belonging to Mt. Hiei (山門領 / Enryakuji), so the survey rod did enter there. However, since other lords' holdings were intermixed, the portion belonging to the Kamo domain —
