[This folio is written in red ink — annotations] --- Document bearing a seal, dated the twenty-seventh day of the third month of Tenshō 11 (1583): [continued from previous page] Concerning the six villages within the precincts of Kamo Shrine's estate, and the various scattered holdings: since ancient times these have been designated as the lands of the Three Shrines (sansha-ryō) and thus exempt from entry by the provincial governor's agents (shugo-shi funyū). In light of the repeated official directives (gechi) and especially the vermilion-seal document (goshuin) that [the shrine] holds, there shall be no deviation from precedent with regard to mountain forests, bamboo and timber, corvée labor (ninsoku), and irregular levies (hibun no kayaku) — all shall remain as before. The document is as stated above.    Tenshō 11 (1583)     Twenty-seventh day of the third month — Sugihara Shichirō-Zaemon-no-jō                         Ietsugu [seal]    To all parties (sō) of this shrine --- Document bearing a seal, dated the twenty-second day of the eleventh month of Tenshō 11 (1583): Concerning the six villages within the precincts of Kamo Shrine's estate, and the various scattered holdings: since established precedent (senki), these have been designated as the lands of the Three Shrines and thus exempt from entry by the provincial governor's agents. In accordance with the repeated official directives and vermilion-seal documents, the following shall henceforth be firmly prohibited as before: [unauthorized exactions upon] mountain forests, bamboo and timber, corvée labor, irregular levies, and all [related impositions]. Accordingly, [the order] is as stated above.    Twenty-second day of the eleventh month, Tenshō 11 (1583)        Hashiba Chikuzen-no-kami                Hideyoshi [seal]    To all parties of Kamo (Kamo-sōchū) --- Document bearing a seal, dated the sixth day of the twelfth month of Tenshō 12 (1584): Concerning the yield (taka) of sixty-seven koku, nine to, and six shō located within the four villages of Minami-Ono-gō and Ichijōji, which are part of Kamo Shrine's estate: in accordance with established precedent, [these revenues] shall be paid into the shrine (shanō) without fail — there shall be no deviation. The document is as stated above.    Sixth day of the twelfth month, Tenshō 12 (1584) — Kii [seal]    To all parties of this shrine (tōsha-sōchū) --- Document bearing a seal, dated the twenty-third day of the twelfth month of Tenshō 11 (1583): Concerning the six villages within the precincts of Kamo Shrine's estate and the various scattered holdings: since established precedent, these have been designated as the lands of the Three Shrines and thus exempt from entry by the provincial governor's agents. [The shrine] has received repeated official directives, and in particular, since a personal letter (orikami) from Hideyoshi has been dispatched [to this effect], the following shall be prohibited henceforth as before: [exactions upon] mountain forests, bamboo and timber, corvée labor, irregular levies, and all [related impositions].
