（前頁より続き）今になって上京しても、何を申し上げても誠意があると思っていただけないでしょうから、上方（京都）で手配して間に合わせましょうと申し上げたところ、このように懇切なるご意向であるので、代官衆へお申し付けいただき、少ないながらも品々を受け取りました。
そうしたところ、毎日お城の周囲のご普請の御供をしておりますと、汗が目に入り、目がはれ上がってきたので、「上京して養生せよ、またその後に下向せよ」とのご命令をいただき、片桐主膳殿に「備前の岡山まで送り届けよ」とのお言葉をいただきました。この間の様子は筆紙に尽くしがたいものです。御意に従い岡山へ赴き、五・六日逗留して目の養生をし、それより上京いたしました。三月に下向し、五月二十四・五日頃に京都へ着きました。
一、六月二日、明智日向守（光秀）が信長様を討ちました。秀吉様は西国の高松城をお攻めになり、ご意向通りに（和議を）まとめられ、御預かりの形となり、その後急ぎ上洛なさり、明智殿を成敗されてご本望を遂げられました。
一、信長様のご時世に、当所（上賀茂社）の一切の進退に関わる貴布祢山・二瀬里（ふたせのさと）との争いがあった際、京都の御奉行の村井殿が一方的に二瀬の側へお申し付けになり、当所が負けという形になりました。各々が迷惑に思うことこの上なかった。しかるところ、明智殿が片方の奉行でありましたので、明智殿へ申し上げればよいと言いましたが、縁（つて）がないとのことでしたので、薬院（典薬頭か？）を頼みましょうと、我々は薬院と特に懇意でありましたので、拙者が薬院を頼み、明智殿の元へ参る衆として、藤治少（殿）、西丹後守殿、民部少輔殿、雑掌、これらの方々と同道して相国寺へ参り、これまで通りに従者として申し達しましたところ、早速ご理解いただき、村井殿と同様に皆お聞き届けになってお申し付けいただけるとのご返答をいただきました。

(Continuing from previous page) Since arriving in the capital at this late stage, whatever we might say would not be taken as sincere, we proposed to make arrangements in Kyoto (the capital) and manage from there. They responded that, given such a cordial sentiment, they would instruct the local magistrates accordingly, and we received a modest number of goods.
As we accompanied the daily inspection rounds of the castle's construction works every day, sweat began to run into our eyes and they became swollen. Upon this, we received the order: "Go up to the capital and recuperate, then come back down." We were also instructed by Lord Katagiri Shōzen (片桐主膳) to escort us as far as Okayama in Bizen Province. The details of all that occurred during this period are too numerous to describe with brush and paper. In accordance with the instructions, we traveled to Okayama, lodged for five or six days to recuperate our eyes, and then returned to the capital. We had traveled down in the third month and arrived in Kyoto around the 24th or 25th of the fifth month.
Item: On the 2nd day of the sixth month, Akechi Hyūga-no-kami (Mitsuhide) struck down Lord Nobunaga. Lord Hideyoshi was besieging Takamatsu Castle in the western provinces and achieved his objectives (by negotiating a settlement), taking it under his custody. He then rapidly marched up to the capital and punished Lord Akechi, thus achieving his great ambition.
Item: During the era of Lord Nobunaga, there was a dispute concerning Kifune Mountain and Futase Village, matters that are integral to the administration of our shrine (Upper Kamo Shrine). The Kyoto magistrate, Lord Murai, ruled one-sidedly in favor of Futase, leaving our shrine at a disadvantage. All parties were extremely troubled by this. However, since Lord Akechi was a co-magistrate, it was suggested that we appeal to him. Though it was said there was no connection to him, we proposed to rely on Yakuin (likely the head of the Court Medical Office). As we were on particularly good terms with Yakuin, this writer asked Yakuin to help, and accompanied by those who would visit Lord Akechi — Lord Tōjishō, Lord Nishi-Tango-no-kami, Lord Minbu-no-Shōyu, and the shrine administrator (雑掌) — we proceeded to Shōkoku-ji Temple and reported our circumstances through an attendant as had been customary. We were immediately heard, and received a reply that the matter would be adjudicated in the same manner as Lord Murai's ruling, with all parties being heard.
