醸造居之状先般売薬類似之見込ヲ行致候て
免許鑑札願出候処右ハ売日売薬ニ不抱銘酒
之ニ篭り遺り候ニ付銘酒譲造免許鑑札可願
受儀ニ付右之趣御申達醸造方書并右数
共巨細為差出御廻シ相成儀尤本年ハ
期日モ短ク候ニ付醸造場ニ而も販売不致候はゝ
来ル十月願立候共当人適宜願出候様御申
達可被成候段申遣候也

その郡中（南向村塩沢伊八郎、飯島村宮下権四郎）が養命酒と称してマムシ酒を醸造している状況について、先般売薬類似の見込みを以て免許鑑札の願い出をしたところ、これは売薬ではなく銘酒の範疇に属するものであるため、銘酒醸造免許鑑札を願い受けるべき件について、右の趣旨をお申し達しします。醸造方法書並びに右の数量等も詳細に差し出していただき、お回しいただく件、もっとも本年は期日も短いため、醸造場においても販売しないのであれば、来る十月に願い立てることでも当人の適宜により願い出るよう、お申し達しくださるようお伝えいたします。

Regarding the situation in your district where (Shiozawa Ihachiro of Minaminuki Village and Miyashita Gonshiro of Iijima Village) are brewing snake wine called "Yomeishu" (tonic wine): They previously applied for a license certificate under the assumption that it was similar to patent medicine, but since this does not fall under patent medicine but rather under branded alcoholic beverages, they should apply for a branded alcohol brewing license certificate. Please convey this matter to them. The brewing method documentation and detailed quantities should be submitted and circulated. However, since the deadline is short this year, if they do not sell at the brewing site, they may submit their application in the coming October at their discretion. Please inform them accordingly.
