現代語訳
さて小林の朝比奈は島々を渡ろうと海辺にやって来て、大船に乗ろうとしたところ、船頭どもが乗せまいと争った。「それならば面倒だ」と言って、
帆柱を軽々と振り回し、「船頭が乗せないのなら、これで打ち殺してやろう」と怒ったので、船頭は大いに肝を潰し、詫びをして船に乗せた。

「早く船を出さぬと打ち砕くぞ、どうだ。木屑と成り果てるぞ」
【船頭たちの台詞】
「ああ、過ちでした。お乗せ申し上げましょう。まずはご勘弁くださいませ。ご勘弁、ご勘弁」
英語訳
Now, Asahina of Kobayashi came to the seashore intending to cross between the islands. When he tried to board a large ship, the boatmen refused to let him aboard and quarreled with him. "If that's the case, this is troublesome," he said.
He lightly swung around the mast, and angrily declared, "If the boatmen won't let me aboard, I'll beat you to death with this!" The boatmen were greatly terrified, apologized profusely, and let him board the ship.
